With great joy, the inauguration of the renovated Pediatric Surgery Room of Archbishop Makarios III Hospital took place on 30/5/2023. The event was attended by First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, the Minister of Health, and the Mayor of Strovolos, Andreas Papacharalambous. The project was funded and implemented by the Youth Group of the Pan-Cypriot Association YOUNG VOLUNTEERS and the campaign “BEAUTIFYING THE ROOM OF LOVE”.
The needs that were met between 2020 and 2022, always with the help of volunteers, sponsors, and supporters of the association, as well as the close collaboration between the management and staff of OKYPY and Makarios Hospital, include the creation of 2 new and the complete renovation of 4 existing bathrooms, the application of wallpaper along the corridor of the room in an original design by Pamela Papaikavou, a complete renovation of the patients’ kitchen with the purchase of new electrical appliances, the acquisition of 19 new comfortable chairs and 17 wardrobes for beds, the purchase of 200 sensors and 4 monitors for children, and the replacement of lighting with LED fixtures.
Being able to offer to your fellow human being is something truly beautiful, and the MICRO VOLUNTEERS express great emotion in being able to contribute to this social project, together with old and new friends who supported it. Once again, our fellow citizens have demonstrated their generosity through the purchase of water bottles decorated with the wonderful paintings of Giorgos Georgiadis, Ermina Emmanouel – Art, and Pamela Papaikavou, as well as through various contributions, including a significant amount collected by the Federation of Parent Associations of Primary Schools in Nicosia. Companies such as Photis Pafitis & Son Ltd, Andrelia Woodworks/Renovations, Leroy Merlin Cyprus, Epiphaniou Bath & Floors, Maouris Oikoset, and many others offered valuable materials and services without which the renovation could not have been realized. Throughout the years, the Ambassador of our association, Louis Patsalides, and Floralink Suppliers Ltd nurseries, graphic designer Anna Theodosiou, G. Charalambous coffee roasters, and other beloved collaborators have always been by the side of the MICRO VOLUNTEERS.
Special thanks were given to all the children, the association’s little volunteers, who played a leading role in the campaign with the support and guidance of their educators and parents. The selflessness with which the children operate, their boundless energy and love, often serve as an example for adults, who simply need to open some doors for them. The invaluable contribution and love of Lakatamia Kindergarten ST – Agios Stylianos Public and Community Kindergarten of Lakatamia ST Agios Stylianos and their Parent Association, Boubouki Kindergarten, Junior and Senior School, and The English School, Nicosia, were greatly appreciated.
The selfless contributions of all those involved have given and will continue to give color, joy, and hope to both young and old in difficult times.
